Ashland has an exciting opportunity for a Journeyman Pipefitter to join our Specialty Ingredients business at our Freetown, MA site. This is a very visible, significant role within the Company and the Manufacturing function. This position will report to Safety Manager.
The responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to, the following
Works closely with the Maintenance Planner and others in the Maintenance group to accomplish the goals and objectives of the department.
Fabricates pipe from various kinds of materials, including carbon steel, stainless steel, copper, plastic, cast iron and any other material used in a chemical plant.
Disassembles and repairs leaks and other problems in exchangers, reboilers, preheaters, towers and other equipment used in chemical plants.
Read and understand P&IDs, piping specifications and similar material and performs basic rigging.
Coordinates project work with other Maintenance work groups and the Production department.
Complies with all ASI procedures and safety rules and reports all incidents and events to immediate supervision for corrective action.
Attends all departmental safety meetings, actively supports and participates in safety programs and implementations.
Complies with all ASI plant policies, procedures and practices applicable to the Maintenance Department.
Participates in various company and regulatory training designed to improve plant processes and/or increase unit production.
Participates in Safety and Environmental initiatives that will contribute to compliance of State/Federal regulations and improve existing Company programs.
In order to be qualified for this role, you must possess the following:
A minimum of four (4) years pipefitting experience in a chemical or manufacturing facility is required with an Associate's Degree in Mechanical Technology or related discipline also strongly preferred
Must possess a valid Massachusetts Journeyman Pipefitter License
Desired prior experience should include being knowledgeable in chemical process manufacturing, pipe fabrication, welding, plant safety rules and regulations, Process Safety Management (PSM), current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGPM), environmental compliance standards, site quality processes, and emergency response requirements
Possess a high level of mechanical aptitude
Must be an effective communicator and possess basic computer competencies
Must be capable and willing to work overtime and holidays, as may be required
Must also have the ability to work in confined spaces and from elevated areas within the plant
Must be able to think clearly and solve multifaceted problems in the field with personnel of various degrees of skill levels, education and training
Must be authorized to work in the US.
Individual must be able to respond appropriately during site emergencies as directed by the Site Emergency Coordinator. Must be capable of evacuating the manufacturing process areas in a timely manner should an emergency situation arise. The candidate must also be able to wear and properly
utilize appropriate personal protective equipment if required to work or visit within the manufacturing process area. This may include hard hat, safety glasses, respirators, ear plugs, steel-toed shoes, or other equipment as required by the work performed and location the work is being done. May be required to operate a company vehicle on company business.
Other physical requirements for this position include:
Able to climb scaffolds, ladders, and stairs, at varied excessive heights.
Capable of entering and working in confined spaces, when required.
Possess ability to lift an object weighting 50 pounds and carry a minimum of 100 feet.
Able to perform very strenuous jobs while wearing breathing air masks, and other safety-related material.
Exposure to various temperature extremes as dictated by local climate.
Exposure to loud noise levels created by running equipment in the process areas.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
